A brief story
More than 40 years with Scandinavian Design
World Pictures was established in 1966 by publisher Kirsten Bjerregaard who had the idea of spreading the word of good Danish design to the world.
Her ambition was to do a 'design exhibition in the form of a book', and her idea was realized in 1967 when Design from Denmark came out and was distributed worldwide.
The following year Design from Denmark became Design from Scandinavia and a voyage of communicating about quality design from the five Nordic countries had begun.
Throughout the years Kirsten Bjerregaard and her team have pursued this idea of gathering together design news and interesting design stories and they have considered it an exciting challenge to record and disseminate developments within modern Scandinavian design.
New talents
New talents have been presented, the birth of classics have been marked, designer profiles celebrated and interesting - and innovative new design products, materials and techniques have been recorded.
The distribution of Design from Scandinavia continued to grow through the 70's, 80's and 90's in markets such as Asia, the USA and former Eastern Europe, and today Design from Scandinavia is being sent to readers in 75 countries.
World Pictures today
Today, World Pictures has established itself as a supplier of quality design information and in recent years the publishing house has expanded its product range to include gift books about Denmark as well as special books made on request from Nordic design companies and organizations.
Today, World Pictures also coordinate design and lifestyle exhibitions together with exporters and Danish/Nordic embassies around the globe.
In 1996 Kirsten Bjerregaard received the prestigious Danish Furniture Prize for her consistency and commitment to 'spreading the word about Danish design'.
In 2009 World Pictures is planning a new Denmark Special Climate Edition on the occasion of the COP15 meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark and the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
